This position is located in Rock Creek Park, a National Park Service Unit. The primary purpose of the position is to perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul work on automobiles, trucks and tractors, including gasoline and diesel engines and other mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronically controlled systems. Duties

The major duties of the Automotive Mechanic position include, but are not limited to, the following: Troubleshoots, repairs, and/or overhauls major vehicle and equipment components and systems such as engines, transmissions, differentials and transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, emission control systems, and related computer assisted electrical, electronic, braking, hydraulic, fuel, and other assemblies. Disassembles, repairs, replaces, reconditions, and rebuilds components of the various systems, and makes independent judgments based on specifications in technical manuals and on accepted trade practices. Using a wide variety of electronic diagnostic equipment, conducts tests and analyzes test results on vehicle systems and components. Performs vehicle and equipment operation checks in order to determine safety deficiencies or service requirements of all unit vehicles and equipment. Responsible for inspecting, repairing, and overhauling small engines and other components on items such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, pumps, cement mixers, motor cycles, ATV's and other related equipment.
