About the Position: This position is located in the Legal Office on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Employee serves as the Paralegal Specialist engaged in providing verbatim reporting of military General Courts-Martial and Special Courts-Martial proceedings for official record per AR 27-10 and the Clerk of Court for the installation.

Duties

Receive and maintain positive control of all documents served upon the military judges. Responsible for travel reports for all military judges reporting to U.S. Army Legal Services Agency (USALSA) on a monthly / quarterly basis. Receive, log, and review for completeness and accuracy all Statements of Trial Results sent to this office for review and authentication from subordinate units. Ensure records are reviewed, authenticated, and returned in a timely fashion. Act as a point of contact for military judges’ clerks and court reporters from all subordinate installations. Ensure Military Magistrates have appropriate appointment letters.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• This position requires the incumbent to have the skill of a certified court-reporter.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
