This position is located in Vicksburg National Military Park, in the Interpretation and Education Division.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. See the "Duties" section of this announcement for more information.

Duties
This position is being announced concurrently under announcement SE-1628-VICK-24-12251053-ST.
You will work from approximately February - December and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.
Major Duties GS-1702-06: Presents curriculum-based education programs for pre-school-grade 12 in accordance with NPS policy and to support the park mission, purpose, and significance. Programs are presented both on and off-site and may use distance learning/video conference software. Practices contemporary education methods and techniques to support these activities. Assists with the development of curricula-based school programs which are relevant to park interpretive themes and conform to appropriate state and national teaching standards. Assists in planning, organizing, and presenting workshops for teachers and other educators and develops workshop and orientation materials. Assists with the evaluation of all curriculum-based materials for appropriateness and effectiveness. Delivers education programs in an engaging fashion in accordance with current educational pedagogy and interpretive principles and best practices, using inquiry-based methods and hands-on activities. Assist with the development and coordination of youth education programs and children's education activities for special events. Assists with research to develop curriculum-based activities and support materials. Assists with the evaluation of all curriculum-based materials. Assist with the development and coordination of youth education programs and children's education activities. Additional supervision is provided in the GS-06 role.

Presents curriculum-based education programs for pre-school-grade 12 in accordance with NPS policy and to support the park mission, purpose, and significance. Programs are presented both on and off-site and may use distance learning/ video conference software. Practices contemporary education methods and techniques to support these activities. Delivers education programs in an engaging fashion in accordance with current educational pedagogy and interpretive principles and best practices, using inquiry-based methods and hands-on activities. Develops, coordinates, and leads youth education programs. Conducts independent research to develop curriculum-based activities and support materials such as student activity guides and props. Assists in planning, organizing, and presenting workshops for teachers and other educators and develops workshop and orientation materials. Develops a schedule of program offerings and delivers multiple programs per week to classrooms of K- 12 students. Uses multiple videoconference software programs and media presentation platforms. Schedules education programs, off-site and on-site. Communicates directly with teachers, school administrators and other educators to plan and schedule curriculum-based education programs. Informs school administrators, teachers, and other group leaders of park policies concerning school visits and ranger visits to schools. Handles telephone inquiries relating to the park's education programs and makes every effort to resolve complaint calls related to education programs before referring them to other staff members. Maintains a computerized database for the education program that includes information for each program delivered. Tracks education program statistics monthly and prepares related reports. Tracks, inventories, and requests Junior Ranger supplies. Prepares materials for educator packets.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/17/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess at least of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: working, with support and direct supervision, as an elementary or high school teacher or teacher's aide; working with land management or conservation organizations as an interpreter or as an aide in an outdoor school; working in a nature-based summer camp for youth; college intern work emphasis on youth programs and/or working in the VISTA program with youth and instruction in curriculum-based programs and environmental education; presenting educational programs in and out of parks and other outdoor areas; developing interdisciplinary lessons that incorporate math, language arts, science, and history; developing curriculum for grades K-12; and adapting learning styles, tools and techniques of education for engaging students; assess educational programs and presentations for effectiveness. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one semester (9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field of study directly related to the position, such as elementary, secondary, or environmental education. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first determine the percentage of experience held by dividing the number of months of qualifying full-time experience possessed by 12 and then multiplying by 100. Then determine the percentage of qualifying graduate level education completed by dividing the number of credits completed by 9, then multiply by 100. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: working as an elementary or high school teacher; design and present curriculum based educational and interpretive programs; assist in planning, organizing, and presenting workshops for teachers and other educators; conduct independent research to develop curriculum-based activities and support materials such as student activity guides and props; developing curriculum that follows state curriculum standards for a range of grade levels; working with land management or conservation organizations as an interpreter or as an aide in an outdoor school; working in a nature-based summer camp for youth; college intern work emphasis on youth programs and/or working in the VISTA program with youth and instruction in curriculum-based programs and environmental education; and developing networks and building alliances with partner organizations; adapting learning styles, tools and techniques of education for engaging students; assess educational programs and presentations for effectiveness. You must include hours per week worked.
