This position is located at the 147th ATKW, Ellington Field AFB, Houston, TX. The purpose of this position is to both personally pilot and to instruct others in the piloting of highly advanced military Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) which involves such functions as launch and recovery, surveillance, surface attack, full scale weapons employment, mortar to arm escort, killer scout, target illumination, laser targeting, functional flight tests, and flight testing.
Duties
As a AIRPLANE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (TITLE 32) with the Texas Air National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:
Administers combat flight training to military aircrews.
Initial Qualification Training (IQT): Training to qualify the aircrew in basic aircraft flying duties without specific regard to a unit operational mission.
Mission Qualification Training (MQT): Training required to achieve a basic level of competence in the unit's primary tasked missions.
Continuation Training (CT): Training to maintain proficiency and currency.
Upgrade Training (UG): Training which is syllabus directed to qualify the aircrew in positions beyond that of the entry level. Elements of "Upgrade Training" include, but are not limited to: Instructor Pilot (IP), Flight Examiner (FE), Launch and Recovery Element (LRE) pilot, Mission Commander, and Functional Check Flight (FCF) pilot upgrades.
Special Capability Training: Training which is designed for specific missions and/or special equipment types. Elements of "Special Capability" instruction include (but are not limited to): Forward Air Controller-Airborne (FAC-A), Multi-Aircraft Control (MAC), and Multi-Ship/Formation Operations.
Assesses instructors, CMR and BMC pilots, CMR and BMC Sensor Operators (SOs), and Mission Coordinators (MCs) both assigned and attached to the unit.
Projects unit training requirements and prepares required training records in accordance with governing regulations and supervisor guidance. Utilizes all available training aids to instruct airplane aerodynamics, aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and specific crew duties.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of airplane systems and procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.
CMR status as an RPA pilot. Responsible for mission planning and preflight briefings that include: intelligence briefings, weather briefings, mission objectives, and other agency coordination to ensure safe flight procedures and effective mission accomplishment.
Serves as the Air Operations Officer's (AOO) representative when performing duties as: Operations Supervisor (OPSUP), Supervisor of Flying (SOF), or Mission Commander (MCC); and is responsible for the safe and efficient mission accomplishment through the use of Operational Risk Management (ORM).
Incumbent may perform work in any of the following Air Operations program support functional areas:
Standardization/Evaluation: Plans, organizes, and directs the Standardization and Evaluation program.
Weapons and Tactics: Instructs all aircrew on current TTPs and employment techniques for the RPA.
Training: Establishes detailed scenarios to provide realistic and effective aircrew training.
Scheduling: Develops and executes the unit's flying schedule and flying hour program using inputs from the AOO and Maintenance Group.
Plans: Develops unit specific plans to implement both combat and non-combat taskings.
Safety: Develops and executes unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with MAJCOM, NGB, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) directives.
Inspector General: Serves as the Wing Commander's principal advisor and provides technical expert to wing personnel on the Air Force Complaints Resolution and Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA) programs and the Air Force Inspection System (AFIS).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Specialized Experience Required
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting 24 months working experiences in civilian aviation programs; or, military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components); or, in the Army National Guard Aviation Support facility; or, Air National Guard Wing/ Operations Group. Qualification competencies are determined by three factors: The aircraft operated; the nature and purpose of assignments; and, the degree of hazard. Experienced in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main- frame/military aircraft: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA). Although a variety of piloting administrative tasks are performed in support of an Air National Guard aviation program, the required competence for this grade includes the ability to train and instruct others in the piloting of a specified main-frame military aircraft. Experienced in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information, AND experienced in supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, filing of flight plans, and conducting crew briefings, AND experienced in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning, AND experienced in operating aircraft controls and equipment, AND experienced in performing or supervising the work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance, or reconnaissance, AND experienced in conducting or supervising crew member training on simple to complex mission specific tasks, AND experienced in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders, AND experienced in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics, AND experienced in planning and preparing for missions; and, must have at least two years experiences in piloting or instructing others in piloting specific air-frame/military aircraft, AND experienced in various piloting administrative tasks performed in support of Air National Guard aviation programs, AND experienced in aviation unit quality control management programs, AND experienced in the unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration directives, AND experienced in applying directives, regulations, accident reports, safety data, and local operating conditions to determine unit safety program requirements, AND experienced in flying operations and coordinating with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and programs, AND experienced in one or more missions such as, air-to-air; air-to-ground; mortar-to-arm escort; surveillance; reconnaissance; surface attack; killer-scout; target illumination; or laser targeting, AND experienced in traditional "stick and rudder" type controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed, AND experienced in using aircraft instrumentation and aircraft mounted video cameras, AND experienced in visual flight- rule type flying and aircraft instrument flying, AND experienced in flying simulated "real world" combat and non-combat missions and terrain, AND experienced in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace, AND experienced in applying operational directives, training directives, instructions, standard operating procedures, and special instructions of National Guard Bureau, United States Army or United States Air Force, and gaining commands, And experienced in working independently to plan and perform work assignments, AND experienced in completing safe and efficient mission accomplishments through the use of Operational Risk Management, AND experienced performing aviation duties such as, cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordinating for airport or airspace utilization with FAA, or directing emergency actions that involved unit support agencies, AND experienced in using applicable Army aviation regulations, policies, requirements and standards, skills and practices; and, the application of instructional techniques to the training of other pilots in the Army National Guard flying facilities, AND experienced in conducting particular missions and flying specific main- frame aircraft in combat tactics, flying in mountainous terrain, performing tactical remote site evaluations, performing landings on remote sites, providing ground and flight training, and conducting night-vision operations or instructions, AND experienced in standardization and evaluation programs, written ground examinations, emergency procedures, and aircrew performance standards in accordance with applicable directives and Federal Aviation Administration certification requirements, AND experienced in reviewing and complying with applicable service flight publications and directives for accuracy and currency, AND experienced on weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft, AND experienced with wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements used for unit mobilizations, deployments, strange field operations, or troop missions and redeployments.
Education
Minimum Education Requirements:
Air National Guard Officers: An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is mandatory.
AND
You must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from an accredited civilian aviation program or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
