The employee serves as the Lead Medical Technician of the phlebotomy staff for in-patient and out-patient specimen acquisition with the responsibility of providing administrative support and technical direction.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Responsible for day to day workflow of the out-patient blood and urine collection area and inpatient blood draws.
Schedule daily tasks for team members, coordinate training of new employees, assess workload and assign tasks as needed.
Monitor maintenance of blood drawing carts and collection work area for cleanliness and compliance.
Lead team in solving problems, such as delayed draws, improper collection devices, specimen identification.
Coordinate clinical rotations and train vocational school students.
Gather data and prepare excel and word reports of quality assurance activities such as patient wait-time and patient satisfaction.
Perform venipunctures, capillary punctures, and arterial punctures according to protocol.
Prepare samples, slides, smears, or other types of specimens common to the laboratory.
Process a wide variety of complex specimens from hospitalized patients and patients from outpatient and community based clinics.
Work Schedule: 6:30am - 3:00pm, Monday - Friday with rotating off shift weekend/holidays. May be further discussed during interviews.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/11/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Individual Occupational Requirement for 0645 Series:
Specialized experience:
Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic, and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings, or
Technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled.
Minimum Qualifications for GS-06: You must qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include what is stated above, as well as, but are not limited to: performing phlebotomy/blood draws on human patients; maintaining and controlling laboratory records; interacting with patient/staff in a courteous manner; and providing support to fellow employees, such as training, scheduling, and assessing their workload.
