You will serve as an OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH NURSE in the DON Military Sealift Command of MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND.

Duties

You will review appropriate medical evaluations in keeping with current standard medical practices and occupational medical surveillance program standards. You will provide continuing assistance and advice for the maintenance and improvement of current medical programs. You will provide individual medical counseling and coordinates exam requirements activities for specific employee groups (i.e. forklift drivers, academy cadets, etc.). You will perform pre-deployment screening and is authorized to make Fitness for Duty determinations within the scope of the Military Sealift Command Force Medical Officer written guidelines. You will review physical examinations and Occupational Health Medical surveillance results and independently orders follow-up evaluations.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current BLS certification.

Qualifications

ALL Applicants must meet the Basic Requirements Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level Education A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. This position Basic Requirements factor will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. (NOTE: Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photo static copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience implementing and enforcing medical standards and policy through review of mariner medical examinations and specialty evaluations. Experience in a wide range of nursing concepts at the RN level, and with the principles and practices to perform unique nursing assessments and fitness for duty determinations of an advanced nature that are significantly challenging. Experience initiating referral and consultation requirements with other health care providers for injury, illness, and changes in health monitoring (i.e. patients with respiratory symptoms, hearing threshold shifts, etc.). Experience conducting vital signs, vision testing, EKGs, and coordinating the completion of other clinical requirements.   • At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
