Duties
- Provides public affairs training in internal and external settings, as requested by area offices and regional offices.
- Serves as first line review of technical work for team members before submittal to supervisor for final approval.
- Supports the operation and maintenance of various internal and external websites - providing guidance and direction on a variety of topics ranging from web posts and design choices to news releases.
- Ensures the Reclamation, Missouri Basin Region and Office of Public Affairs strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are communicated to Area offices and Regional offices.
- Provides assistance and consultation to managers, supervisors, and employees throughout the Region across a variety of communication planning, strategy, and response situations.
- Designs, develops, and implements internal communication programs and initiatives for the region.
- Works regularly with our legislative and congressional affairs liaison in Washington D.C., and other officials, providing professional advice on water quality and natural resource legislation and congressional oversight activities on Reclamation programs and activities.
Qualifications
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.
To qualify at the GS-12, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-11 level in federal service having demonstrated experience advising senior management on development of media campaigns; developing strategic outreach and marketing plans; and overseeing arrangements with media or determining the best strategy for responses to negative media or managing social media platforms, media relations or stakeholder engagement.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
