About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, headquartered in North Chicago, Illinois, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 65 military processing locations (Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS)/Remote Processing Stations (RPS)), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services.

Duties

Serve as liaison for military personnel matters. Make recommendations for improvements in assigned program areas. Assist in the review and oversight of a large variety of administrative functions for the Command Group. Implement qualify control for assigned administrative functions. Monitor military evaluations and award submissions. Review staff action packages for completeness and adequacy. Provide advice to management on administrative issues. Prepare administrative reports for management. Supervise civilian and military personnel within the Sector.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Providing advisory services to management on civilian and/or military personnel matters; Assisting in identifying and/or reviewing issues or problems with administrative functions; Assisting in developing policies and/or procedures for an organization's administrative functions; Coordinating with civilian and/or military Human Resources Offices on matters pertaining to personnel management; Preparing military and/or civilian personnel actions; and Analyzing manpower/resources to recommend changes to an organization's personnel structure. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). -OR- Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business, Human Resources, or Management. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. If you have not met the education requirement at the time of application but will meet it within 30 days of the announcement closing date, you will be required to provide transcripts -AND- appropriate documentation to reflect you will meet the education requirement. Appropriate documentation includes: (1) Resume indicating your projected completion/graduation date; OR (2) Transcripts indicating your projected completion/graduation date; OR (3) A letter signed by the institution's registrar indicating your projected completion/graduation date.
