Supporting the Medical Center and Environmental Management Service processing, repairing, issuing, and storage of employee uniforms.

Duties

Primary Duties: Operates and performs minor maintenance on Wash-on-Hanger machines, Washer Extractor and Rotary Uniform Rack. Assists in linen operations as time permits. Operates all equipment related to the processing, repair, issuance and storage of uniforms; i.e., Wash-on Hanger Machine, Washer extractor and Rotary Uniform Rack. Must be capable of mixing various chemicals used in the laundry process and must be able to identify and properly treat many types of fabric soilages. Performs minor maintenance and repairs of the various pieces of equipment, performs visual and normal operator maintenance, checks for operability and provides equipment servicing such as cleaning, oiling, lubricating and checking hoses, belts, clamps, cleaning filters and other equipment components. Inventories chemicals used in conjunction with machine operations. Ensures that all government owned uniforms are properly maintained. Receives and inspects of all government-owned uniforms, and for sending those uniforms requiring mending to the Sewing Room. Work Schedule: Varies based on the needs of the service. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent is required to pull heavy racks of linen in the Linen Room. The incumbent is required to be on his/her feet the majority of the time, and must be able to bend, squat, lift, and push, pull and climb ladders. Must possess strength and stamina for doing heavy physical tasks for long periods, e.g., pulling wet laundry from washer, pushing heavy carts of wet laundry, and lifting bundles weighing over 50 pounds. Stand and walk continuously on concrete floors. Laundries are very noisy and usually hot and humid. Workers are constantly exposed to the possibility of bruises from moving carts.
