This position is located in a National Park Service Unit. The primary purpose of the position is to perform journey level gardener duties that are necessary for the proper maintenance and care of landscaped areas.
A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.
Duties
The major duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Transplants trees, shrubs, flowers and other plants by digging proper sized holes and preparing the soil to receive the plants. Removes the plant taking care not to damage the roots and removes sufficient soil to insure its continued growth in the new location.
Computes quantities of plants, seeds, and other materials needed for specific areas.
Determines when plants need additional watering and how long they should be watered.
Selects and sprays area with herbicides, fungicides and insecticides for the control of plant diseases, plant insects, and weeds.
Fertilizes, waters, and seeds turf areas, and removes rocks, leaves, trash and debris from landscaped areas.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Pesticide applicator certificate - The incumbent of this position is required by the Park to obtain a pesticide certificate within 6 months of employment.
Screen Out Factor: I have the ability to perform I have the ability to perform common tasks including fertilizing, preparing seedbeds, transplanting, laying sod, dividing plants and watering.
