You will serve as a Safety Assistant (Office Automation) in the Mission Support Division, Code 125400 of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY.

Duties

You will maintain subject matter files and records that relate to the work of the Health Physics Section as well as set up and maintain logs showing the status of actions and correspondence. You will will ensure that files include all required documents and that all documents are properly signed. You will receive visitors and telephone calls to the Section and determine the nature of requests and directs callers to the appropriate staff. You will respond to routine and non-technical requests for information such as status of reports, suspense dates for matters requiring compliance, and similar information readily available from files. You will receive incoming correspondence, screening material prior to distribution for suspense dates, establishing controls, and following up for the supervisor. You will review correspondence prepared for the supervisor, checking for spelling, typographical errors, conformance to formats and procedural requirements. You will schedule appointments and make arrangements for time, participants, and location of meetings in accordance with instructions from the supervisor. You will requisition office supplies, equipment, and publications and perform timekeeping tasks. You will perform a variety of other administrative support duties.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-01/04) or pay band (NC-01) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Preparing business related correspondence ensuring proper use of format, grammar, and spelling; 2) Processing travel, personnel, payroll, procurement, and/or training requests in compliance with standard regulations and procedure; 3) Utilizing office automation systems and computer applications to include Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel) for filing, scheduling meetings, calendar management, and database management; 4) Answering and directing phone calls and in person inquiries to appropriate personnel; and 5) Reconciling charges through the use and management of a government purchase card. This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination. Education

In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
  • Successful completion of four years of education above high school; OR
  • A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
