The Social Worker Program Coordinator serves as the Local Recovery Coordinator, who is licensed at the advance practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. This position is located at the H. John Heinz III Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center (Aspinwall).

VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU Duties include but are not limited to: Serve as Local Recovery Coordinator who is administratively responsible for implementation of policies and procedures from the National Recovery Coordinator, facilitates implementation of recovery-oriented services in Mental Health Programs that includes education of providers, veterans and their families in recovery and is responsible for evaluating the implementation of those efforts. Oversees the daily operation of the program, develops policies and procedures for program operation and prepares reports and statistics for the facility, VISN, and national use. Functions as a champion, ombudsman, and consultant to mental health/recovery model at all levels in the organization. Participates in regular scheduled conference calls and serves as the interface between local initiatives and national planning, oversight, and guidance in the implementation of recovery-oriented service. Develops a facility recovery education plan for providers and veterans and their families. They also develop an ongoing education plan for providers that includes but is not limited to: recurrent didactic presentations about elements of recovery recurrent presentations by recovering individuals, especially veterans information about community mental health support groups and other resources education on how to make referrals provides information about VA and national recovery materials and resources and how to access them provide information about VA sponsored trainings and education on recovery, e.g., how to communicate recovery to patients and families assist in the availability of recovery posters and brochures provide training on cultural competency and coordination of local recovery training as needed and information about how to become involved in improving mental health care for veterans through the Consumer Council develops facility wide recognition for Mental Health Awareness Month and Mental Illness Awareness Week. The Incumbent provides clinical and administrative guidance to Peer Support Staff (GS-0102-5/9) who are assigned in various Mental Health programs/services. Serves as consultant to mental health programs and recovering veterans in development of support groups, consumer counseling and consumer operated services, as per local needs and resources. Provides program analysis, and evaluation of clinical program data and computerized programs, to identify system-wide trends and needs to enhance the quality of service. Providing direct, recovery-oriented clinical services for no more than 25 percent of their tour of duty. Outreach to Veterans with SMI identified by the Serious Mental Illness Treatment Resource and Evaluation Center (SMITREC) as being lost to VA care for over 1 year, including facilitation of the Veteran's return to care pursuant to the Veteran request. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: Social Worker (Program Coordinator), GS-12 Experience and Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. Preferred Experience: Experience as a Mental Health clinician providing direct care and experience in the recovery model References: VA HANDBOOK 5005/120 PART II APPENDIX G39 The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12 Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019, Employee Occupational Health Services. Work is divided between office, clinical and community settings. May require prolonged standing, moderate walking, and manual dexterity. The incumbent must be able to exercise a high degree of emotional and mental discipline at all times to continue to carry out duties efficiently. This is especially necessary during times periods when the incumbent encounters significant or extreme duress because of interactions with patients, etc. This position requires potentially long periods of continued sitting. Requires carrying light items, such as books, files, or laptop computer. Extensive community work is involved with this position.
