Qualifications
In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS 14 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS 13 level defined as evaluating health effects of environmental exposure to radiation; interpreting statistical scientific data; and providing training and support to emergency preparedness and response management activities.
Your application package will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Skill in interpreting scientific documents relating to the generation of dose projections; 2) Knowledge of health physics principles and practices; 3) Knowledge of principles, theories, and practices of health physics to serve as an authority in providing advice and guidance; 4) Ability to advise, counsel, and instruct personnel on methods of dealing with radiation hazards and procedures; 5) Skill in oral communication; 6) Ability to approve and procure radiation and contamination measuring and monitoring equipment; 7) Knowledge of key radiological programs, training, and response operations; 8) Ability to interpret environmental standards and regulations.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.
You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus; OR a combination of education and experience which included courses in the fields included in the described course work; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education comparable to the described coursework.
