About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Public Works Construction and Transportation Division, Construction & Maintenance Branch at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA.

Duties

Install or repair heating, ventilation air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Install and or fabricate material according to specifications. Plan projects from initial layout to final assembly according to instructions. Utilize shop mathematics to measure, cut, install and or fabricate material according to specifications. Use schematics, drawings and/or blueprints when available. Use engine lathe, drill press and/or sander to effect repair.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • Must be able to obtain a forklift operators permit within a reasonable time frame of appointment.
  • Position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to occasionally travel (5%) to attend workshops, training, or seminars.
  • Must be able to physically lift up to 50 lb. during normal operations.
  • Must possess and maintain Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal certification required prior to appointment.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination prior to employment and annually thereafter.
  • This is a mission essential position may require reporting to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operation in the event of severe weather conditions.
  • Must acquire and maintain a government license to drive vehicles assigned to the work unit.

Have the ability to perform common Utility Systems Repairer-Operator Leader tasks to include: assisting with work schedules to complete task within a timely manner; ensuring tools and equipment are available to perform work for utility systems (i.e.; air conditioning, heating, water, and wastewater); complying with energy guidelines, procedures, and technical methods. I can lead workers to meet deadlines. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Efforts: Frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to heat and cold can be protected against by proper clothing. Inside work is usually in buildings adequately heated, lighted and ventilated. Noise from hammers, saws and other power shop tools is frequent. There is dust, and sometimes dirt, when repairing structures and operating power saws. Occasionally, required to wear heavy and uncomfortable protective clothing.
