Duties
Conduct health hazard inventories, sampling of chemical, physical, and biological stressors, sanitation inspections, and formal and informal employee education.
Complete surveys determining compliance with established threshold limit values (TLC), evaluating exposures, and advising on control measures and changes in work procedures to comply with health requirements.
Conduct Environmental Health inspections assessing the installation drinking water program, recreational facilities, and soldiers support facilities.
Prepare reports of findings and proposes corrective measures for unhealthy conditions and hazardous work practices.
Conduct moderately complex segments of major surveys of a variety or work environments, general industrial settings, research and developmental activities, and chemical storage and handling areas.
Analyze illness and injury reports; develops recommendations for eliminating or controlling the hazards detected after review.
Maintain sampling/survey equipment in a state of readiness for immediate use.
Perform field and laboratory calibration of sampling instrumentation in accordance with established office protocols.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Position is a GS-07 level with promotion potential to a GS-09. The position may be filled at either level GS-07, GS-08 or GS-09. If selected at the GS-07 or GS-08 level; noncompetitive promotion to the next grade level is authorized; pending time in grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform at the next higher/target level grade duties.
Qualification Requirements for GS-7
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing administrative functions to a medical treatment facility; communicating with patients and clinicians about medical information; stocking supplies of treatment area; and experience with automated healthcare systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Qualification Requirements for GS-8
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting surveys and/or investigations to ensure compliance with policies and procedures; prepare and/or perform health-hazard sampling to include chemical, physical, or biological stressors; and maintaining and/or calibrating equipment such as industrial hygiene instruments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes independently conducting surveys and/or investigations to ensure compliance with policies and procedures; prepare and/or perform health-hazard sampling to include chemical, physical, or biological stressors; and maintaining and/or calibrating equipment such as industrial hygiene instruments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Two full years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.
