About the Position: This position is part of the Army Career Development Program and is a Civilian position with the Department of the Army. This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Recent Graduates.

Duties

Identify correct location of historical items utilizing automated databases. Prepare artifacts for display, exhibition or examination by patrons or staff. Conduct tours or briefings on exhibits, services and resources. Assist curatorial staff with installation/de-installation of exhibits.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Requires occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • This position may require you to do business travel up to 5% of the time.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: To be eligible for consideration you must meet the definition of Recent Graduate as defined below: Recent Graduate: a person who was awarded a degree by an institution of higher education not more than two years before the date of the appointment of the applicant. Exception: For a person who has completed a period of obligated service in a uniformed service of more than four years, the degree may be awarded by an institution of higher education not more than four years before the date of the appointment of the applicant. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant education and experience. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Museum Technician: Specialized Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level, which includes: 1) Executing proper handling of historical items/materials for exhibition; 2) Accessing historical items/materials using automated systems; AND 3) Preparing artifacts for long term exhibition. OR Education: I have successfully completed four years of education above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in related fields of study. Related fields of study include art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to this position. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 120). Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
