This position is located in Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. The incumbent will perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. This Permanent Career-Seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. .

Duties

The major duties of the Maintenance Mechanic position include, but are not limited to, the following: Serve as a Maintenance Mechanic performing the most difficult installation, maintenance and repair of equipment and historic buildings Perform and oversee a variety of routine preventative maintenance actions for carpentry and masonry projects. Performs a variety of equipment Operation including backhoe, skid loader, tractor, mower, forkift, manlift, pickup trucks, and dump trucks.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Carpentry/Woodworking: Knowledge of Materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct, install, finish, or repair wood structures. Use of Measuring Instruments Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc (Includes blueprints reading) Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Engineering Equipment Operation Painting If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
