About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center located at Fort Cavazos, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Research various supply sources for availability, shelf-life, and special contracting while also establishing, maintaining, revising, and canceling stock levels based on historical demand. Project reorder requirements, based on demand and supported stock levels, expiration dates and thorough knowledge of area requirements, initiate emergency supply orders, and ensure items received are checked for shortage, damage, and deterioration. Check daily and monthly reports to purify documents and identify actions that have been initiated or require follow-up, research and coordinate actions required to correct discrepancies, and resolve error in documentation and system processing. Coordinate specialized instrumentation and sets for use in the operating room for patients undergoing procedures ranging from complex to routine procedures. Draft detailed documents and justification for when items should be placed in inventory or declared excess and removed from the system, prepare discontinued and excess equipment for turn-in, and request loaners on broken equipment. Develop and implement automation functions to identify, track, analyze, and update surgeon preference cards, instrument count sheets and costs.

• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• This position requires moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Basic Requirement for Medical Supply Technician: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes ordering, receiving, and verifying medical equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
