These positions are located at the Tucson VA Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to provide Health Care aid at the Health Care System VISN and facility levels. The Health Aid is responsible for performing selected patient/resident related transports to different areas such as, x-rays, CT Scan, MRI, Prosthetics, Sonography and other related areas.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provides holistic in-patient care to Veterans in a manner conducive to the comfort and safety of those in the facility hospital units, living centers and/or household.
Uses and follows proper hand hygiene, universal precautions and general infection control principles. Educates, role models, and assists inpatients/residents and families in adhering to infection control principles throughout the facility.
Provides a range of personal care as needed to include bathing, toileting, hair and nail care, and dressing in personal clothing while maintaining privacy and dignity of inpatient/resident.
Assists as needed with eating, drinking, positioning/ turning, ambulating, transferring, and escorting inpatients/residents.
Performs a range of clinical support duties, which include taking, recording vital signs and reporting deviations to the RN.
Takes, monitors, and documents resident weight and height.
Collects urine, stool, sputum and other specimens for Laboratory analysis.
Measures and documents fluid intake and output as needed.
Obtains equipment and supplies and assists the RN and/or medical provider(s) when he/she performs minor medical/surgical procedures when appropriate and within skills and knowledge.
Prepares, cooks, and serves food.
Maintains inventory control as needed.
Conducts physical inventory of food and supplies prior to requesting/ordering food and supplies.
Other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Sunday-Saturday, 5:30am - 2:00pm or 2:00pm - 10:30pm

Qualifications
In accordance with 38 U.S.C 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
In order to qualify for this position, applicants must possess at least one of the following minimum requirements:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Possess six months of general experience. General experience is any type of work that demonstrates your ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation such as any health care experience, customer service, and operating computers. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: Your answer will be verified against information provided on your resume. EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Successfully completed 1 year of education above the high school level with courses that included study in medical, health, or related fields. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. Physical Requirements: Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Working with residents requires regular and recurring bending, lifting (not to exceed 35 pounds), reaching, carrying, stooping, stretching and similar activities.
