This position is located in Public Works Division, Utilities Branch in the Engineering Department at Training Center (TRACEN) Petaluma, CA.

Duties

You will serve as Operator in Charge of the TRACEN Petaluma's water system.  You will be responsible for the overall operations of the system, including compliance with the California State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water requirements.

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • 4. The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • 5. This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. (Screen-out Element) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Operation of potable water treatment and distribution system, sewage and storm water collection systems, clarifiers, nitrification reactors, flocculators, and comminutors. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). Use of Measuring Instruments. Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (other than blueprinting reading). Dexterity and Safety. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. In addition to the requirements above, possession of the following certifications are highly desired upon application: -State of California Drinking Water Distribution Systems Operator Grade D2 or higher  **This certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment and maintained.** -State of California Backflow Prevention Installation, Repair and Testing certification  **This certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment and maintained.** T1 certification is required within 6 months of start date.

Student Loan Incentive:  Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $10,000 (pre-tax) for one calendar year. More than one loan may be repaid if the combined repayments do not exceed $10,000. Receipt of this incentive will require a three-year service agreement.
