About the Position: This position is located in Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, CO. The position, Histopathology Technician, will work in the Department of Pathology.

Duties
Prepare frozen tissue sections for sectioning and stain slides during surgery.
Accession and properly label specimens using LIS software.
Responsible for proper processing, fixing, embedding, sectioning and staining tissue slides.
Perform thin sectioning and microtomy on all types of tissue.
Performs tests on all types of tissue to include bone, brain, lymph nodes, and small endoscopic or needle biopsies.
Performs special stains and immunohistochemical stains as requested by pathologist.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must successfully complete pre-placement and annual medical examinations.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required (NACI).
- This is a key emergency essential-remain in place position.
- Position may require the employee to work weekend and holidays including day, evening, or night shift hours.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated/documented work in staining, embedding of tissue specimens; microtomy of tissue; performing special stains; AND preparing sample slides. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Histopathology Technician license is not required but is recommended.
