Duties

Maintain records of sterilization processes performed in accordance with established policy. Determine the proper sterilization procedures for different types of items. Perform operation tests on equipment to determine proper functioning and make adjustments. Assist Dentist with general and routine dental procedures. Operate various kinds of processing equipment (i.e. Washer sanitizers, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, cart washers/decontaminator, ethylene oxide, and steam and gas plasma sterilizers) when sterilizing tools and equipment. Inventory supplies, instruments and equipment to determine reordering needs.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment.
  • Employee must possess and maintain an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate of training
  • Uniform will be required.
  • Pre-employment physical is required.
  • Ear protection may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) may be required up to 5%.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) investigation.
  • Must be able obtain a certification as a radiographer and have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in 42 CFR Part 75.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 10 pounds is required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. The following meet these requirements: (1) Persons who meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Successful completion of an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education; AND are certified as a radiographer in their field. (2) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others. You must submit supporting documents (i.e. statement of service, transcripts, certification) with your application package (for application purposes, unofficial transcripts are acceptable). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) performing sterilization procedures in dentist or clinical office; 2) storing and issuing of dental supplies; AND 3) assisting with dental preparations and providing chair side assistance during procedures. OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, medical supply processing, storage, and distribution; sterile supplies, operating room, surgical technician courses, dental assistance or other fields related to the position.(NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
