The Chief Sterile Processing Officer (CSPO) Program Lead position is with the VISN 17: VA Heart of Texas Health Care Network with a duty location in Arlington, TX.

Duties

The VISN 17 Chief Sterile Processing Officer (CSPO) in the Office of the Network Director collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility, network, and national levels. He/she works closely with VISN, VACO and facility staff at each site. He/she provides oversight of seven (7) facilities and their Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) related to these programs. The VISN 17 CSPO is administratively responsible to the VISN 17 Chief Nursing Officer works closely and collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer, VISN 17 Quality Management Officer, Patient Safety Officer, and other clinical and administrative staff within the VISN at the Network Office, facilities and at VACO. Contacts at the facility level include directinteraction with the Medical Center Director, the Associate Director of Patient Care Services, the Associate Director, SPS Chiefs and services chiefs in every specialty in addition to physicians, nurses, hospital technicians, technical representatives, facilities management staff, engineers, and service representatives. He/she demonstrates leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for quality and high reliability organizational principles that transcends services and influence organizational mission and health care within VISN 17. The Chief Sterile Processing Officer (CSPO) works collaboratively with both VISN and Facility Leadership and SPS/RME workgroups in the implementation of SPS/RME processes/activities across the network. He/she is the representative and communication for VISN 17 matters pertaining to sterile processing and reusable medical equipment at the national level and communicates effectively with senior officials within VACO. He/she is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the topic of sterile processing and reusable medical equipment. He/she serves as the Chair to the VISN SPS Management Subcommittee. This position provides guidance and oversight to the Board and anySPS/RME Community of Practice Workgroups. He/she coordinates, plans, and implements SPS/RME activities at the VISN level. He/she implements key elements of the SPS/RME strategic plan across the network. He/she will communicate regularly with the National Program Office for Sterile Processing (NPOSP) and participate in the national monthly calls with NPOSP. He/she will conduct and/or participate in facility site visits conducted by the VISN and/or NPOSP review and promote SPS/RME activities. The Chief Sterile Processing Officer (CSPO) will review/analyze pertinent VISN and Facility data from available sources related to the SPS/RME program to develop initiatives to improve practices. He/she will oversee SPS/RME initiatives, outcomes, and best practices withinfacilities. He/she will spread best practices across the network and conduct ongoing SPS/RME educational activities. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: 3-5 yrs Sterile Processing Chief or equivalent experience 3-5 yrs Operating Room leadership experience Specialty Certification: Certified Healthcare Leader in SPS (CHL) Specialty Certification: Other nationally recognized certification in SPS Specialty Certification: Certified Perioperative Nurse - Operating Room (CNOR) Specialty Certification in nursing leadership (CENP, NE-BC, NEA-BC, CNML, etc) Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse IV - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 4-5 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and appropriate basic or advanced certification desired, and approximately 3-4 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 35·pounds for 8-12 hours, intermittently, moderate carrying (15-35 pounds) for 8 to 12 hours, intermittently, lifting over 35 pounds with assistive devices in accordance with the Safe Patient Handling Policy except in emergent situations requiring prompt patient care, pulling for 8 to 12 hours intermittently, pushing for 8-12 hours, intermittently, reaching above the shoulders for 8-12 hours, intermittently, both hands required, walking 8-12 hours, intermittently, standing 8-12 hours intermittently, kneeling 8 to 12 hours, intermittently, repeated bending for 8-12 hours, intermittently, climbing and use of both legs and arms for 8-12 hours, intermittently, both legs required, near vision at 13 to 16" Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other eye, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing aid permitted, twisting, simple grasp and fine manipulation.
