Position is located at NNMC, Division of Nursing Administration, Medical/Surgical Unit. The purpose of the position is to operate a variety of motor vehicles capable of carrying passengers/patients and loads up to and including one (1) ton. Works to assist Nursing Division. Incumbent reports to the Supervisory Nurse of Patient Coordination.

Duties

Operates ambulances, pick-ups, carryalls, and sedans. Drives passengers/patients to and from designated locations. Ensures the safe transport of passengers/patients and cargo. Operates vehicles under emergency and non-emergency conditions to transport patients to and from the designated locations. Performs preventative maintenance services on transport vehicles, (i.e. Check fluids, check tire pressure, refuels vehicles after transports, reports any malfunctions to supervisor). Disassembles, cleans/wipes and reassembles medical equipment used in patient care. Tracks and assures completion of prevention maintenance for patient care equipment. Establishes and maintains tracking system for patient care equipment that complies with Infection Control, Risk Management and JCAHO Standards. Assists with interpreting for Navajo speaking clients.

Ability to Drive Safely-Motor Vehicles Operation of Motor Vehicles Interpersonal Skills Attention to Detail Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, Etc. Vehicle Maintenance MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: WG-5703-06:EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Examples of experience include: performing motor vehicle operator duties, including follow oral and written instructions for work assignments, follow established traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation, operating motor vehicles under any or all of the following driving conditions: congested roadways, moderately steep mountainous terrain and/or narrow streets, determine safest and shortest route to destinations based on current road/traffic conditions, maintain records and documents actions, all without more than normal supervision. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort is used reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arm, feet, and legs to operate hand controls on vehicle operated. When transporting patients, incumbent may be required to lift and maneuver patients weighing in excess of 150 pounds. Incumbent may exert moderate physical effort in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and the occasional handling of heavier objects while assisting patients. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs. WORKING CONDITIONS: As an MVO, incumbent is required to operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Incumbent drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated roads and interchange systems. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
