Duties
Serving as a Accounting Technician GS-0525-5/6 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is within the Finance (FIN) Division under the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Directorate and located in Glynco, Georgia.
The primary purpose of this position is to:
Serve as the limited technical expert for purchasing, accounts payable, purchase card, disbursement and accounts receivable procedures within a large, complex and computerized accounting/financial management system and its related subsystems and interfaces
Serve as a limited technical authority by explaining, interpreting and possessing a diverse and thorough knowledge of Federals laws and Principles of Federal Appropriation Law, DHS and FLETC directives, policies and procedures, as well as a good working knowledge of Comptroller General decisions and associated requirements spanning the spectrum of accounts receivable, accounts payable and disbursing functions.
Respond to a wide variety of questions, ranging from routine, uncommon and complex, from a large and diverse customer base of decentralized users and vendors.
Conduct research and analyzing accounting data by employing analytical methods and skills.

Eligibility
Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.
Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree completion to apply.
Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
1. At least 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level performing such duties as utilizing accounting procedures, techniques and terminology; entering and retrieving data in an automated accounting and/or billing system; and reconciling, adjusting, balancing, and maintaining accounting transactions. -OR-
2. Successful completion of 4 years (120 semester hours) of education obtained in an accredited college or university in any field. You must provide a copy of your transcripts. -OR-
3. An equivalent combination of successfully completed education obtained in an accredited college or university and experience. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. You must provide a copy of your transcripts.
Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
1. At least 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level maintaining accounting data, entering accounting data into an automated financial system to process a wide variety of account transactions, researching accounting discrepancies, and making appropriate corrections within an automated financial system. -OR-
2. Successful completion of at least 9 semester hours of graduate level education obtained in an accredited college or university may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. You must provide a copy of your transcripts. -OR-
3. An equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate level education obtained in an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position and specialized experience.
