The primary purpose of this position is to operate a variety of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles typically with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 10,000 and up to 26,000 pounds to transport cargo, supplies, equipment and/or passengers.

Duties

- Drives/operates one or more types of medium trucks, such as water trucks, latrine servicing trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, or staircase trucks to transport cargo, supplies, materials, baggage, and equipment. - Drives one or more types of passenger vehicles such as passenger vans and/or buses capable of carrying up to 44 passengers. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. - Operates one or more electric, LPG, or diesel-powered forklift trucks which are capable of lifting loads of up to 10,000 pounds as high as 168 inches to facilitate loading and unloading duties. - Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. - Maintains records and documents actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports. Processes passengers for flight on military and commercial aircraft following established procedures, regulations and guidelines.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR (FORKLIFT OPERATOR) without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of more than 10,000 and up to 26,000 pounds such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, passenger vans, shuttle buses, and cargo vans. 2. Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle and forklift operation. 3. Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more electric, LPG, or diesel-powered forklifts typically capable of lifting less than 10,000 pounds as high as 168 inches. Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read installation maps to determine the shortest and safest route. 4. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle, forklift, and power take-off unit operation and preventive maintenance. Reliability and dependability to meet pickup and delivery deadlines and schedules. 5. Ability to judge aisles, doorways, loads and load balance, and operate controls to maneuver forklift trucks. Knowledge of passenger safety rules including those regarding the use of seatbelts. 6. Ability to communicate orally and be responsive to the needs of the passengers. Knowledge of established procedures, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to the processing of passengers. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort is moderate. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS: Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of weather primarily on the installation. Driver's routes are primarily to and from the aircraft parking apron on the flight line delivering cargo, supplies, equipment and passengers to awaiting military and commercial cargo/passenger aircraft. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
