Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The primary purpose of the Dental Laboratory Technician is to directly collaborate with trained Prosthodontist, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, General Dentists and Dental Residents to design and fabricate complex dental or intra-oral maxillofacial appliances. Such assignments require thorough knowledge of oral anatomy, tooth morphology and dentition, a thorough knowledge of laboratory materials, tools, and equipment and a very high degree of skill in their use. The technician is involved in design, fabrication or modification of complex removable and fixed oral-maxillofacial appliance including tooth supported crown and bridge, implant supported crown and bridge, tooth or implant supported partial denture, conventional or implant supported complete denture, maxillary obturator, mouth guards, occlusal guards, fluoride trays, or any other dental appliance needed. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-09: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: using dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials; using laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, and hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment; using precision instruments such as articulators, surveyors, and microanalyzers; and constructing dental prosthetic appliances. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~OR~ A master's degree or 2 years of graduate education (36 semester hours) in dental technology. One year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours determined by the school, if that information cannot be obtained, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the one year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Transcripts required. ~OR~ An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. Experience must be documented, and transcripts are required. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Manages and Organizes InformationTechnical Competence IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary, but also requires standing, bending, reaching, lifting heavy materials and general dental laboratory functions. Work is performed in the dental laboratory setting. Due to the various types of dental equipment dental materials, chemicals and sterilizing agents that must be used, it is necessary to observe standard safety precautions to avoid accidents. The laboratory technician is required to wear personal protective equipment.
