You will serve as a FABRIC WORKER HELPER in the Temporary Services and Support Shop, Production Resources Department of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will assist journey-level fabric workers. You will clean work areas, run errands, and hold materials in position as directed by the mechanic. You will assist fabric workers in aligning materials to be sewn, cut, etc. You will use grommet machines, dielectric heat-sealers, electric cutting knives, and poly bag sealers.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision, performing duties such as: Using trade equipment, such as mallets, hammers, pliers, tape measures, square, and grommet sets. Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and job orders. Using simple arithmetic to figure yardage of fabric needed. Tying trade knots, making rough sketches. Determining the dimensions of parts from patterns or samples.
