Duties

Serving as a Student Trainee (Accounting Technician) GS-0599-4 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is within the Travel and Relocation Branch (TRB), Finance Division (FIN) under the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Directorate, and located in Glynco, Georgia. The primary purpose of this position is to: Use per diem rate charts, official travel distance guides, and airline guides, to check the correctness of facts. If factual information is missing from any of the forms, such as authorizing signature, fund code number, or proper item breakdown in a receipt, or if there are factual errors, then determines the source for locating additional information and obtaining the required document or a correction of factual errors. Assist in the monthly analysis and reconciliation of open subsidiary ledgers (e.g. obligations,) for all appropriations and funds. Tracing transactions and prepares worksheets to reflect the sources of discrepancies. Conduct research and analyzing accounting data by employing analytical methods and skills (computer and otherwise) to make determinations and recommendations to standardize accounting practices andeliminating inconsistencies among customers. Research and analyzing complex accounting or travel transaction history in the automated system to reconcile with customer records.

  • This position requires you to have access, safeguard, and store classified national security information on a regular basis. You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Possess and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a scale of 4.0.
  • Enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis.
  • Overtime work may be required.
  • This position is eligible for telework based on agency policy.

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-04 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: A. Successful completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate degree from an accredited college or university. You must provide a copy of your transcripts; -OR- B. 1 year of general experience providing support and assistance in the processing of financial accounting data. All requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

The Pathways Intern will receive formal periodic assessments of progress and sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.

Eligibility for conversion does not guarantee that FLETC will offer conversion.

You may be considered for conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completion of degree requirements provided you:

-Successfully complete an academic course of study with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 (on a 4.00 scale);

-Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience before completing your degree;

-Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which you are converted; and

-Maintain an acceptable level of performance.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications; applicant's resumes and supporting documentation should only reflect education received from schools accredited by such institutions.
