About the Position: This position is located in the Pharmacy Department, Directorate Clinical Support Services, Naval Health Clinic Oak Harbor (NHCOH), WA. The mission of NHCOH is to ensure high quality and safe patient care supporting readiness, quality, and health for forces and family. Advance Leave Accrual May be Authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Supervise professional and technical personnel in the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy. Serve as the Hazardous Drug Officer and ensures Command procedures for storage, handling, preparation, and disposal of hazardous drugs adhere to Environmental Protection Agency and Washington State Department of Ecology regulations and restrictions. Advise and make decisions as part of a multidisciplinary group on effective and efficient strategies in the delivery of high-quality patient care. Evaluate transcription and interpretation of a physician's prescription order (written and verbal) for appropriateness of drug therapy to include evaluation of the drug selected and the regimen prescribed (dose, frequency, duration). Oversee technician staff that process and fill prescriptions and/or sterile and non-sterile pharmaceuticals. Prepare complex combinations regimens for clinical protocols including new and investigational agents and biologic response modifiers. Distribute and balance workload and task among employees in accordance with established workflow, and skill level. Prepare reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG).
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • May required to work on any day or shift, including PMs, night, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Pharmacist: Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirement above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors. Experience Requirements: One year of professional pharmacy experience: dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners; providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects; preparing pharmaceuticals in a Medical Facility; maintaining medication records required by law and accreditation standards.
