This position is located within the Emergency Department of the Lawton Service Unit under the supervision of a Supervisory Nurse or designee. The Lawton Service Unit consists of three facilities located in Lawton, Anadarko, and Carnegie, Oklahoma. The incumbent functions as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and Emergency Room Nurse and participates in the local community SANE program.
Duties
Triages patients by recognizing, identifying, and interpreting acuity of the illness or injury for prioritization of care, including the need for immediate action.
Provides emergency care to victims of sexual assault by obtaining a medical history and assault account, assessing the patient's physical, mental, and emotional status, performing a physical exam, collecting and preserving evidence and relevant specimens, accurately and completely documenting findings.
Participates in the community SANE program.
Administers medications. Operates and monitors general and specialized emergency care equipment such as infusion pumps, pulse oximeters, ventilators, cardiac monitors.
Performs simple diagnostic tests such as point of care testing.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):Basic Requirements Education A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education , or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One (1) full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) AND possess a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Independently planning, scheduling, and providing comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department, including triaging patients and recognizing and intervening in acute life-threatening situations such as cardiac and respiratory failure, for patients across the lifespan from newborn to geriatric and for medical, surgical, and obstetrical patients. Training and experience in the comprehensive assessment and physical examination of sexual assault victims.
OR
Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.

One (1) full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) AND possess a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
