This position is in the Podiatry Section of the Surgical Care Service at the EOV AHCS. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the Muskogee medical center and the TOPC including all clinical and other patient care areas involved with the service. The technician performs a wide range of podiatric treatment procedures and related technician tat in support of Podiatrists and their assigned functions.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Incumbent participates in the admission of patients by collecting patient information, orienting patients to the unit; accountable for the accurate documentation of care and data in the electronic medical record in a timely manner Supports medical and health care professions in Podiatric procedures by keeping the area sterile, setting up specialized equipment/instruments, and placing patients in the proper positions for the procedure and application and removal of routine prosthetics/orthotic devices Incumbent assists clinic nurses or Medical Doctor (MD) with wound care, cast removal and dressing changes and applications; includes removal of old dressing and preparation for new dressing under supervision of clinic nurse or MD; measures and documents vital signs (i.e. heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, pulse oximeter), weight, height, and blood Glucose Incumbent provides patient and staff education contributing to proper health care practices, improving care delivery, and patient/family needs or staff compliance or requests Collaborates with the Business Office, Home Health and other services and Medical Support Assistants (MSAs) to coordinate further patient care or ensure patient appointment scheduling Incumbent performs daily checks of clinic stockroom and ensures that room is properly filled and submits any missing or requested items to the Supervisor Maintains room cleanliness, and ensures necessary tools and trays are present and sterile between patients Assists in placing orders in Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) The Incumbent monitors the Vista Scheduling Enhancements (VSE) Appointment system and verifies the Providers schedule and further communicates with the MSAs too coordinate any appointment changes or scheduling. Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday; 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require occasional heavy lifting of equipment or patients, within the technician's capability.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Individual Occupational Requirements(IOR): Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): All applicants for this position must meet the specialized experience IOR. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. AND; GS-06 grade level: In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirements, to qualify for the GS-0640-06 Health Technician - Surgical Care Podiatry, all applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level, GS-05. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to: Participation in the admission of patients by collecting patient information, orienting patients to the unit, accoutablity for the accurate documentation of care and data in the electronic medical record; assisting with procedures by keeping the area sterile, setting-up specialized equipment and/or instruments, placing patients in the proper position for the procedure, and the application and/or removal of prosthetics/orthotic devices; assisting with wound care, cast removal and dressing changes; providing patient and staff education contributing to proper health care practices; providing administrative support by daily checks of the clinic stockroom, assisting with placing clinic orders, and verifying providers' schedule. There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
