This position is part of the St Stephen's Indian School, Bureau of Indian Education. As a School Bus Driver you will be responsible for serving as a School Bus Driver in a BIE School on or near the Reservation. The School Bus Driver position is the major support position for the BIE School.
Duties
As a School Bus Driver CY-5703-2, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
Operate a passenger bus with student passengers ranging in age from Kindergarten to High School.
Operate a passenger bus with wheel chair lift.
Conduct maintenance and safety checks on the school bus prior to beginning all routes and report problems to the designated government representative.
Responsible for the general cleaning of bus to include cleaning inside of bus daily and washing exterior of the bus once a month.
Assist in the loading and unloading of children with special needs and their equipment, as well as assisting these students in getting to and from their classrooms.
Record bus route and schedule (including time information on the trip ticket) and fills out accident reports when necessary.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a background clearance.
- Must POSSESS and maintain valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Must complete a pre-employment and annual physical with the ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
- This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.
- Incumbent may not have any Driving While Impaired/Intoxicated (DWI) arrest or conviction within the past two years, or more than one DWI conviction in your life time.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements contained in the approved job category for P.L. 95-561 described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Basic Education Requirements for the School Bus Driver 5703-02:
High School or General Educational Development (GED) Diploma.
You must provide a front and back copy of your Commercial Driver's License with your application or you will automatically be disqualified.

Education
To meet the education requirements, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Official transcripts are required upon selection.
Education must have been obtained from an accredited or pre-accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.
