The primary purpose of this position is to perform clerical duties and carry out the daily operations of the front desk of the Child Development, School Age Program, Family Child Care and Youth Center hourly, wrap around, special event, part-day pre-school, surge and summer programs.
Duties
Performs the administrative, clerical and building custodian duties of the Child and Youth Services Programs.
Gathers and summarizes information from files and documents for supervisor's or other staff members use in responding to inquiries (transition of children to the next level, new parent orientation, rates, menus, work orders, purchase orders, hourly ratios, etc.).
Receives/makes telephone calls and greets visitors.
Administers records, forms, supplies and daily financial reports.
Uses varied functions of multiple office automations software to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc.

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of various office automation software processing procedures and function keys and the similarities and differences among software types to produce a wide range of documents; knowledge of standard office equipment, such as copiers, etc.; knowledge of body of rules, procedures, or operations applicable to clerical assignments, such as preparing various routine correspondence/reports, maintaining files/records, and reviewing and processing mail; subject-matter knowledge of the Airman and Family Services programs and operations; the maintaining of inventory records and replenishing supplies; the body of standardized rules, processes, or operations.This experience must have been at a level of difficulty and complexity sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of this position. It may have been gained in the private sector, volunteer service, military service, and/or government service, etc..

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You must have a combination of the specialized experience and education as described in "1" and "2" above that equals 100 percent when combined to equal the required 1 year of specialized experience needed for this position. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-04 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-05 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of office functions to screen telephone calls and visitors, prepare and review correspondence, and perform other administrative work of the organization.
2. Knowledge of automated and/or physical filing systems and procedures and the subject matter content of the materials being processed.
3. Knowledge of format of clerical procedures to arrange a variety of material from different sources.
4. Knowledge of Child and Youth Services programs and procedures.
5. Skill in typing, a qualified typist is required.
6. Ability to locate, assembles, and composes information for routine reports, inquiries, and non-technical correspondence.
7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using tact and courtesy.
8. Ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines.
9. Ability to guide employees in the accomplishment of work assignments.
Physical Demands:
Work requires walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting/carrying children and moderate physical exertion. The incumbent works in a child development facility and may be required to rearrange furniture and lift/carry children weighing up to 40 pounds.
Work Environment:
The work is performed in a typical office setting, requiring the use of normal safety precautions necessary for an office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
