You will serve as an IT SPECIALIST (INFOSEC) of NAVY SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT ACTIVITY. This position is in the excepted service and does not confer competitive status.

Duties

You will serve as an IT Specialist (INFOSEC) supporting the Cyber Security Directorate. You will advise on Cyberspace Defense issues and recommend appropriate courses of action. You will lead Cyberspace Defense investigations using cutting-edge forensic tools. You will prepare forensic reports and supporting documentation with respect to Cyber Security and forensic analysis. You will ensure Cyber Security standards are applied as necessary and appropriately.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You must acknowledge in writing that you are accepting an appointment in the excepted service which does not confer competitive status, prior to appointment.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area Cyber Defense Forensic Analyst level Advanced within 12 months of appointment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following: 1) Advising on Cyberspace Defense issues, community cyber compliance requirements, and new and evolving cyber technologies; 2) Facilitating the development, establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of an effective cyber program; 3) Conducting analyses of cyber information systems to identify system security control weaknesses and deficiencies; and 4) Identifying Cyber Security and Cyberspace Defense security implications of new technologies and upgrades.
