About the Position: This position is located at Weed Army Community Hospital, Fort Irwin, CA. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation - Recruitment or relocation incentives MAY be authorized for highly qualified candidates. - Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Manage and administers a comprehensive IH program for the National Training Center and Fort Irwin. Develop methods for providing IH support, evaluations, surveys, and studies of an unusual or complex nature-requiring liaison with agency, DOD component, other governmental agencies, and the private sector. Develop standards, regulations, or policies pertaining to industrial hygiene and workplace safety. Evaluate the adequacy of controls for health hazards in initial and final plans and specifications for facility construction, alteration, and repair work. Provide expert advice, guidance, and assistance during the investigation, design, and remedial action (construction-cleanup) phases of environmental restoration projects.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • Must have or be able to obtain US Army Training and Certification as a Contract Officer's Representative (COR)
  • Incumbent is required to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, Executive Branch Personnel Confidential Financial Disclosure Report upon entering the position and annually.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for a Industrial Hygienist: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. OR Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting surveys to determine the presence of potentially harmful chemical, physical, and/or biological hazards; preparing detailed written reports of survey findings; and providing training and/or consulting on a variety of industrial hygiene and/or occupational health topics. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
