This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel within the DOD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Fort Eustis is located in Newport News, between historic Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. Transportation includes interstate and major highways connecting the city to neighboring suburbs. A Recruitment or Relocation incentive may be authorized for well qualified applicants.

Duties

Serve as a Data Scientist in the Data Division, Prevention Force Modernization Proponent (PFMP), US Army Center for Initial Military Training. Provides professional and scientific expertise in performance of work requiring knowledge and application of mathematics, statistical analysis, modeling/simulation, and/or other scientific principles, methods, and techniques. Use programming languages (e.g. Structured Query Language, PostgreSQL, Bash, Python, and R), business intelligence software (PowerBI, Power Automate), and working knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning methods to gather data. Responsible for creating, validating, and deploying data models, continually assessing PFMP data environment and architecture. Developing plans to address data architecture shortfalls, creating, and maintaining role-based data dashboards, configuring and sustain AI/ML Ops pipelines, and providing feasible recommendations to address these shortfalls to senior leaders.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Education Requirement: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) utilizing programing software such as Excel, Qlik, Power BI, Structured Query Language (SQL), Tableau, R, Python, PostgreSQL, Bash, Julia, or Oracle to gather data; (2) performing various hypothetical evaluations to gather organizational data; (3) developing studies of varying difficulty to gather data through a multiple methodologies such as data modeling techniques, data trend analysis, and the development of mathematical data algorithms; and (4) using organizational data to gauge the perimeters which developmental technology can be tested. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
