This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard, District 13, Sector Columbia River, Marine Safety Unit (MSU) Portland, Portland, OR.
Duties
You will serve as the Marine Investigator and alternate Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)/Privacy Act Officer. The Marine Investigator serves as one of the Prevention Department's civilian resident sources for continuity of investigation program policies, technical issues, special program support activity and assists the Lead Marine Investigator, as the primary contact with other Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies related to marine investigations such as the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, Department of Justice; Federal Bureau of Investigation; Customs; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Department of Defense, Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration and local maritime industry representatives.

Qualifications
You qualify for the GS-12 grade level is you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Some examples of specialized experience are:
Assisting in reviewing technical vessel design and construction plans to determine compliance with regulations;
Assisting to resolve maritime vessel inspection controversies; assisting in identifying hazardous conditions and prescribed corrective actions;
Reviewing the compliance of foreign passenger vessel safety management systems with the International Safety Management Code.
