Duties
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is looking for temporary employees to work as Food Service Workers in Galena, AK.
A Food Service Worker (WG-02) sets up food service counters and steam tables with hot and cold foods. Serves food cafeteria style. Prepares service stands; sets up tables; assists cooks in preparing meals; and replenishes condiments, silverware, and glassware. Prepares sandwiches and box lunches. Loads and unloads dishes in automatic dishwasher and ensures dishes are clean and sanitized. Once clean stacks and stores the dishes. Performs a variety of duties in maintenance and cleanliness of the work area and dining facility. Performs heavy duty tasks; sweeps and mops; maintains garbage collection areas; and unloads and put away supplies.

Qualifications
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your resume.
Screen-out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. This must be verifiable on your application.
To qualify for a WG-02: has worked in the food service industry.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates.

Physical Effort: Work is strenuous, involving a great deal of standing, walking, bending, crawling, lifting (up to 70 pounds), and climbing.
Work Conditions: Work is performed in and around the dining facility. Incumbent is regularly exposed to broad spectrum of temperature extremes i.e., the uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity of the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment; to the extreme cold temperatures when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units. Injuries may occur from sharp tools and equipment, hot appliances, chemicals, steam, and slippery floors. Subject to prolonged periods of standing. Must abide by personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures such as wearing a hairnet or hat and a clean uniform daily.
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
