The Incumbent serves as a first line supervising authority for Psychiatry staff in several programs within the Mental health & Behavioral Medicine Service across multiple locations/sites.

Duties

Supervisory Responsibilities (50%) 1. Functions as the first line supervising authority for Psychiatry staff as assigned in the applicable programs within Mental Health & Behavioral Medicine Service. 2. Provides leadership guidance, administrative as well as clinical, supervision and/or consultation as appropriate to staff in assigned areas. 3. Provides administrative oversight and clinical consultation to other interdisciplinary team members for whom the incumbent is not the designated first line rating authority. 4. Provides clinical supervision to psychiatry residents, Fellows, medical students, and other trainees as appropriate. 5. Ensures timely access to care of patients assigned to the team, in accordance with local and national policies. 6. Monitors compliance of team members with VA performance measures and effectively shapes provider practice patterns to improve standing on performance measures. 7. Provides leadership and Guidance in hiring of new staff members for the team. 8. Resolves conflicts among team members and adjudicates complaints and problems of employees in a timely and effective manner. 9. Approves leave for employees under their supervision and ensures that appropriate clinical coverage is arranged for patient care responsibilities. 10. Initiates performance awards for outstanding employees and completes administrative paperwork with both accuracy and timeliness. 11. Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs to effectively coordinate services. 12. Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Chief of Psychiatry, ACOS MHBM, Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff, and/or Facility Director or any of their respective designees, as assigned. 13. Participates in the monitoring, management and improvement of SAIL measures.14. Performs other administrative responsibilities as assigned. Clinical Responsibilities (50%) (1) Provides psychiatric evaluations, across multiple clinical settings, for veteran population with a vast array of mental health problems including personality, emotional adjustment, or mental illness and may have psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support network. (2) Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders. (3) Practices evidence based pharmacological interventions as deemed necessary for the treatment of mental illness with its goal of reducing psychiatric symptoms, improving interpersonal functioning and overall mental health. (4) Ensures practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with TJC, CARF, HIPPA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, and mandatory continuing education. (5) Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to enhance care coordination efforts. (6) Works effectively and in a collegial manner within a multidisciplinary team comprising of other mental health professionals including but not limited to psychologists, social workers, license practice counsellors, nurses and per support specialists. (7) Orders diagnostic tests, consultations, discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions. (8) Participates in the teaching and supervision of medical students, residents and other trainees as assigned. (9) Psychiatric clinical care will be provided by face-to-face encounters or via using the VA Video Connect Modality. (10) Participates in Psychiatry on-call clinical duties and responsibilities as applicable (11) Performs other directly related duties as assigned. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Applicants must possess a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. Residency Training. Podiatrist must have completed residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: Approved residencies are:(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. Licensure or Registration. Applicants must possess a current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Current or Recent Past Leadership and/or Supervisory experience is preferred and desired for this position. Works well within a multi-disciplinary team framework. Ability to work autonomously. Experience in maintaining appropriate clinical records and follow-up data on patients who are under their clinical care and responsibility. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-4 Podiatrist Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; Use of fingers; Walking (4-6hours); Standing (4-6hours); Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Hearing (aid permitted).
