This position is located in the Associated Director of Patient Care Service Office, Birmingham VA Healthcare System Birmingham, AL. The duties of this position involves serving as the leader in the section and will be responsible for the oversight of performing full range of timekeeping duties for the Patient Care Service Office.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Trains new timekeeping staff and managers on timekeeping duties.
Serves as a consultant in timekeeping issues to Patient Care Service supervisors.
Mentors and coaches teams on effective work methods and procedures to assist the team in meeting goals and deadlines.
Resolves simple, informal complaints of team members.
Informs employees of available employee benefits, services and work-related activities.
Demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work.
Responsible for running reports as well as from computer databases to perform audits.
Responsible for maintaining and generating the overtime usage report for the service.
Displays diplomacy and tactfulness when dealing with all whom contacts the service.
Displays maturity when working in stressful conditions.
Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
Responsible for leading a staff of subordinates.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm with occasional rotation to odd shifts to meet department needs.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/03/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience maintaining multiple reports; experience reviewing work in progress or upon completion and spot checking work; experience serving as a consultant in timekeeping issues; experience inputting data into computer timekeeping program; and performing timekeeping duties. (This experience must be supported by your resume to be creditable.)

Physical Requirements: The work is performed in a typical office setting with numerous office disruptions. Some duties may take the incumbent out of the office setting into the medical center. A risk involved is the potential for infrequent exposure to unpredictable behavior of irate, mentally distraught, or threatening patients and/or family members.
