Duties

This position provides museum collections support for Vicksburg National Military Park. The primary duties of this job include updating and implementing collections management plans, including integrated pest management, storage, environmental monitoring, and housekeeping plans. Responsibilities include preparing museum documentation, documenting collections issues and resolutions, accessioning and cataloging collections, preparing collections for long-term storage, rehousing objects, facilitating research requests, conducting inventories, conducting environmental monitoring, participating in integrated pest management, and providing technical assistance.

To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess the following Basic and Specialized Experience requirements by close of the announcement: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in museum studies or similar area of cultural resources management. You must provide transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide transcripts. -OR- EXPERIENCE: 4 years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown above. -AND- ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: In addition to meeting one of the Basic Education Qualification Requirements above, applicants must have specialized experience or education as defined below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include:1) Museum or archeological collections management, 2) complete and maintain museum documentation, 3) generate catalog records and complete data entry into a collections database, 4) sort, analyze/identify, and process collections, and 5) conduct collections research on archeological or museum materials. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree within a field of study such as museum studies or other similar area of study related to this position. You must provide transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above that meets 100% of the requirements for this position. You must provide transcripts.
