About the Position: Serves as Project Engineer. Is responsible for design or review of designs for major and complex civil works structures such as navigation locks, concrete dams, canals, highways, pumping navigations, bridges, breakwaters, coastal revetment structures, and others. Serves as a representative of Design Section on projects, studies, and contracts assigned.

Duties

Preparing timely, accurate, and effective communications for customers, stakeholders, strategic partners, the workforce, and the public. Investigating sites to determine problem areas and recommend solutions. Developing plans, designs, and specifications and reviewing plans, designs, and specifications prepared by others for the improvement/alternation of existing or the eventual construction of new facilities. Reviewing and/or supervising review of all shop drawings pertaining to structural components of district civil works projects. Reviewing permit applications for adequacy of civil and structural features.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, (5CFR Part 2634, Subpart I USOGE, 6/08).
  • The following Professional Registration is required for this position: a. Professional Engineer Licensed (PE) at the GS-12 level.

Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Maintaining effective working relationship with both internal and external customers to ensure successful project completion; 2) Working under closer than normal supervision performing assignments designed to provide the competencies, skills, and experience required to perform the complex work required at a higher grade level; and 3) Ensuring that project reports, documents, contract plans, and specifications are following policies, regulations, or guidance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-9). GS-12: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Maintaining effective working relationship with both internal and external customers to ensure successful project completion; 2) Reviewing and evaluating the work of team members and engineers project work; and 3) Ensuring that project reports, documents, contract plans, and specifications are following policies, regulations, or guidance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Civil EngineeringOral CommunicationTeamworkTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09/11).
