Duties

Supervise, train, mentor, and provide administrative and technical supervision to a large and multi-faceted staff. Develop and implement strategies which maximize employee potential and foster high ethical standards in meeting the BLM's vision, mission, and goals. Establish and enhance working relationships and alliances within the District organizational structure as well as with others outside of the District office. Set short- and long-term priorities to accomplish work and administer a variety of management programs, including establishing goals for subordinate supervisors to accomplish management objectives. Carry out acquisition and administration of human, financial, material, and information resources necessary for the operation of a District. Implement the District's vision and strategy which integrates key national and BLM Alaska program goals, priorities, values and political, economic, social, technological and administrative factors. Establish policies, regulations, procedures, etc. to accomplish organizational objectives.

  • Supervisory Probationary Period: If you are selected for this position, you will be required to serve a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period if one has not previously been completed.
  • If selected for this position, you will be required to annually complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 within 30 days of reporting to duty.
  • An applicant appointed to this position must possess (or obtain within 30 days of entrance on duty) and maintain a valid state driver's license while employed in this position.
  • May require a one year probationary period.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level performing in the following program areas: budget; supervision or leadership of a program or team; and involvement in the management of public lands. Note: All of these items must be documented in your resume. There is no education substitute for the GS-13 grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
