About the Position: Serves as a Medical Technician in a Military Entrance Processing Station. Incumbent of this position provides assistance to the examining Medical Officer with applicant examination, identification of physical abnormalities and determination of applicant's fitness for military duty. This will be filled on a permanent basis.

Duties

Maintains applicant’s medical record during the examination process. Manages medical consultations to include verifying doctor’s orders or requests from the Service liaisons. Performs customer service duties and administrative office duties such as filing of paperwork and annotating logs. Screens applicants’ records for conducting physical examinations. Performs phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples for HIV and other laboratory tests, using USMEPCOM-standard safety precautions. Administers audiometric (hearing) tests. Performs required calculations and records return date on medical forms for those applicants who did not meet height/weight standards. Monitors the applicants for any adverse reaction to the blood draw, responding to problems and contacting the CMO if serious reactions or emergency conditions exist.

  • This position requires the incumbent to pass a color perception (vision) exam. The position requires the incumbent to physically be able to perform (demonstrate) and evaluate military physical aptitude (maneuvers) test.
  • This position requires the incumbent to use restrictive and protective clothing such as surgical gloves; cannot wear exposing footwear.
  • This position requires occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) as required. This position requires occasional hours on Saturday as required.
  • Required to submit to a blood test when hired and on a yearly basis
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.
  • Due to the nature of the work at Military Entrance Processing Stations which involves direct urine observation and examination of same-sex military applicants, we are accepting applications from MALE APPLICANTS ONLY.

For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education Substitution for GS-06: Successful completion of at least one half year (9 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field directly related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: Medical Technology/Technician, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or a related field of study. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.) OR Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages.
