About the Position: This position is located at Irwin Army Community Hospital, Fort Riley, Kansas.
A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilized to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Receive and review all referrals from laboratory results testing positive for sexually transmitted diseases and other communicable/infectious diseases.
Investigate transmission route and trace contacts that may have been exposed to common source or to the patient for communicable diseases/STDs.
Provide in-depth sexual counseling and education to STD patients.
Provide educational and promotional programs and advice to staff of laboratories, hospital clinics, troop medical clinics and aid stations, and other hospital elements.
Conduct prevention training and informational presentations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- Demonstration of immunity to Rubella and Rubeola, or injection.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting, or assisting with the conduction of, epidemiological (communicable disease) investigations; providing education or counseling to patients with a communicable disease; and preparing or presenting training or information on communicable diseases to medical clinic or hospital staff, and patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
