This position is responsible for providing direct support to the Homeless section of Social Work Service within the EOVAHCS. The incumbent serves to provide specialized and/or technical support to the HUD VASH section of the Homeless program, with primary responsibility to the Tribal HUD-VASH Program. The position will provide consultation and direct assistance to staff within the Homeless Programs as well as direct services to Veterans experiencing or at-risk of homelessness.

Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to: Assess availability of community resources to support client needs to maintain community stability, including social, physical, familial, economic and vocational/avocational resources. Providing on-going support to patients to maximize their coping and adjustment to new housing/settings, one by-product of which is to avoid or forestall new or additional housing interruptions. Representing patients by obtaining or providing information to physicians, nurses, medical administrative personnel, and others, and exploring and developing patient plans. Supporting case management and caseload in a mental health environment with a minimum need for direct supervision. Serving as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team. Identifying appropriate community and other resources and facilitating utilization of these resources by the patient families, and non-patients. Identifying unmet needs within the community and assisting in developing these needed resources. Using effective interviewing skills to elicit data, identify problems, set goals, and develop plans appropriate to client situation. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/05/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Individual Occupational Requirement: Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level in the normal line of progression is qualifying for positions above the GS-5 level. Specialized experience is experience in a program of direct social welfare services that required the application of program policy and operations knowledge in providing social welfare services and/or assisting social workers. Specialized Experience GS-8: You must have two years of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. At least one year of this experience must have been in a medical setting. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Providing unsupervised counseling and education to individuals or families on housing resources. Working with team member on housing and benefits. Acts a liaison between the agency and community resources including marketing and community relations. Maintain data and statistical compilations to comply with CARF and policies of the agency. Input client's information in a Computerized Record system for tracing.
