About the Position: The Alaska District is seeking to fill a Regulatory Program Assistant position. An ideal candidate possesses a passion for helping others and is detail oriented. They have experience in preparing written correspondence, managing time and attendance, posting public notices to a website, arranging travel, managing travel orders and vouchers, acquisition management of supplies, routing telephone calls as well as mail and email, and providing general support for meetings.
Duties
This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-5/6 grade level. At the full performance, GS-7, the incumbent will:
Provides support in the form of various administrative, clerical, and procedural tasks to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and consistency of operations within the Regulatory function including field offices.
Maintains suspense files on all division activities including permit actions, congressional inquiries and FOIA requests.
Serves as timekeeper responsible to report time and attendance records for all personnel in area of responsibility, including field offices, as applicable.
Assigns action identification numbers to all appropriate incoming items and enters them into the Operations and Maintenance Business Information Link (OMBIL) Regulatory Module (ORM).
Evaluates less complex or routine applications for DA permits, as determined by supervisor, and prepares notification letter and supporting documentation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must already possess or obtain and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator driver's license.

Specialized Experience GS-5: One year of specialized experience which includes performing office support services such as using computer programs to store and retrieve data/information, preparing correspondence, and maintaining files. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience GS-6: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative functions of an office, to include timekeeping or coordinating travel; completing/editing notices or correspondence using automated software; and applying administrative rules, regulations, or procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience GS-7: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative functions of an office, to include timekeeping or travel; create and maintain records and databases, preparing and editing correspondence; and interpreting and applying regulatory and procedural requirements to support program requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-7 grade level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
