This position serves as the Dental Chief and is located at the Fort Yuma Service Unit in Winterhaven, CA. The supervisory Dentist position is resposible for directing the dental clinic and reports to the Clinical Director.

Duties

Provides leadership, direction and technical expertise in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the clinical functions of the Dental Clinic. Provider schedules for all dental clinics within the Service Unit, completes or directs peer reviews and quality improvement projects within the Service Unit's policies and procedures. Reviews and completes performance appraisal plans for staff. Approves leave for staff thru automated and manual process for time and attendance and recruits for vacancies as they occur for department. Provides direct patient care for patients; providing dental treatment and referring patients when required pre Purchase Referred Care's policies and procedures for patient care outside the Service Unit. Provides health education to patients and families along with treatment plans for dental care. **This position is being announced concurrently under Excepted Service Examining Plan/Merit Promotion Plan (ESEP/MPP) procedures. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupation Requirements: Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicant must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. Medical Requirements: Must be able to distinguish shades of color. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: Two (2) year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science OR 2 full years of professional dentistry experience and/or training. This experience is equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of Dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; Filling cavities; Straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth, treating gum diseases; Performing corrective surgery; Making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; Administer treatment greater than usual difficulty, deal with cases presenting patient behavior and communication problems; Supervise a dental program, which includes managing the budget and staff. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
