Duties

You will repair, overhaul, modify, test, and install a variety of locking devices, including manufacturing and duplicating keys and the keying and combinating of locking mechanisms. You will use blueprints, specifications, and sketches to plan and determine the work sequence for lock repairs. You will modify and rework locking devices usually designed to work in conjunction with other components and equipment to form a complete security or surveillance system. You will use and maintain tools common to the trade such as, files, picks, tweezers, tension wrenches, powered tools, coding machines, grinders and buffers, stamping machines, electric drills, torches, bench lathes and drill presses.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Perform a full repair cycle of locating malfunction, disassembly, repair, cleaning, reassembly, and reinstallation of a wide variety of commercially manufactured locking devices; 2) Determine the work sequence and select hand and power tools (e.g. files, picks, tweezers, tension wrenches, grinders, buffers, stamping machines, electric drills, soldering, irons, brazing torches, bench lathes and drill presses) to repair locking mechanisms; 3) Plan techniques to be used and apply judgement in the selection of tools and accepted trade practices to troubleshoot and neutralize locks according to appropriate guidelines, manufacturer drawings, diagrams, and technical manuals.
